In a groundbreaking development, Google has recently announced the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its core search engine. This strategic move by the tech giant comes in the wake of Microsoft’s successful incorporation of GPT-4 into its Bing search engine earlier this year.

Dubbed “Search Generative Experience,” this innovative feature within Google aims to revolutionize the search landscape by delivering tailored responses to open-ended queries. The company is committed to pushing the boundaries of AI technology, emphasizing that this new system is still in its experimental phase and will be initially accessible to a limited user base.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, expressed his vision for the future of search, stating, “We are reimagining all of our core products, including search.” This declaration underlines Google’s determination to constantly innovate and enhance user experiences across its wide range of offerings.

In addition to this groundbreaking search enhancement, Google has also unveiled an upcoming feature for its Android system. The new functionality will proactively alert users about unknown AirTags, small tracking devices designed to keep tabs on personal belongings like keys and wallets. Addressing the concerns raised regarding potential misuse, Google collaborated with Apple to develop these “unknown tracker alerts,” scheduled to go live in the upcoming summer.

The announcement took place during Google’s highly anticipated annual developer conference, where the company showcased its latest advancements in artificial intelligence and unveiled new hardware offerings. Among the exciting unveilings was a state-of-the-art smartphone priced at $1,799 (£1,425), featuring an innovative foldable design reminiscent of a book.

Google is also making significant strides in the conversational AI space. The tech giant announced the removal of the waitlist for “Bard,” its experimental chat service that aims to deliver engaging and natural conversations. Bard will be launched in English across 180 countries and territories, providing users with an immersive chatbot experience. Moreover, Google revealed that the chatbot will soon be capable of responding with images in addition to text, further enhancing its conversational abilities.

The competition in the AI domain has intensified, with Microsoft investing heavily in OpenAI, the organization behind the successful chatbot ChatGPT, which has garnered immense popularity. Acknowledging the significance of these advancements, Chirag Dekate, an analyst at Gartner, praised Google’s position as an industry leader and predicted that the company would capitalize on the growing interest in AI.

As Google continues to refine its artificial intelligence offerings, the tech giant remains committed to pushing boundaries and revolutionizing user experiences across its diverse product portfolio. The integration of generative AI into its core search engine marks a significant milestone, propelling Google forward in its mission to provide cutting-edge technologies and redefine the future of search.
