Apple has unveiled a glimpse of its foray into augmented reality technology at this year’s WWDC, generating anticipation for its rumored headset. On the Apple Events page, a teaser “AR experience” has been made available for iPhone and iPad users. By clicking the “View the AR experience” button, users are greeted with Apple’s mesmerizing WWDC logo floating in the center of their screens.
However, this interaction is limited to a visual spectacle, with no meaningful interactivity or engagement beyond the logo’s animation. Users can even switch to “Object” mode to view the logo without any real-world distractions, which is essentially just a video playback. While this teaser falls short of more substantial AR experiences, it aligns with Apple’s cautious approach towards fully embracing virtual reality.
Nevertheless, this move indicates the company’s intention to incorporate AR in some capacity at the conference. During the event, Apple is expected to unveil its highly anticipated “Reality” headset, which has evolved significantly from its initial concept as AR glasses. Despite multiple delays, recent reports suggest the device may elicit controversy due to its reliance on an external battery pack connected to the headset via a wire.
